September is at its end. The classes are full. People are still calling and coming, wanting to register for classes. Though it is heartbreaking, we have to tell them that they cannot yet come and are put on the waiting list. Here we thought that this new venue is big enough, but apparently it is not. Either that, or the need in San Antonio for the services is greater than what the Presentation Ministry Center and other agencies like us can meet. It poses a question for reflection. Evidently the need for classes and programs like ours among our immigrant sisters and brothers is great, but perhaps there is not sufficient response. Maybe together we can reflect on what else we can do and take steps to respond.
There must have been at least 70 people in attendance - parishioners of both Christ the King and St. Agnes parishes, along with some people from nearby Sacred Heart Church, and then of course, the co-ministers and participants and some other guests, including Sr. Joan O'Sullivan, Provincial Leader of the US Province of the Presentation Sisters. Photos of the opening can be found in the Gallery.
It's been a week since the official opening. Classes have begun at 10:00 a.m. on September 8 and have been going on since. There are a lot of participants in the different classes and programs, and they continue to come in. Some people have to be put on a waiting list, even the "returnees", for there simply isn't any more space. Everywhere we look, there sprouts new beginnings. It would be interesting to see where these new beginnings will lead.
The Fall semester 2014 is off to a great start. Through the intercession of Mary, mother of God and our mother too, may everyone grow to become the best person that God calls each of us to be.
