After using and summarizing Schema data for a period of time, people gradually understand that Schema data is not used for ranking purposes, but is only a structured data markup used by Google for display.
However, recent changes to the topic on Google's developer page and statements at the 2017 PubCon event seem to suggest that the impact of structured data may be more complex than that.
How Google uses structured data
Google's developer page once stated:
"When information is highly structured and predictable, it is easier for search engines to organize and display it in creative ways."
This is clear: Google uses the Schema structure Tagging data to organize information and display it in "creative" ways.
But sometime after June 26, 2017, the Google developer page has some changes regarding frameworks. The above mentioned use of the frame for display purposes only has been replaced.
Now Google's webpage says that in addition to enabling "special search results features and enhancements," structured data helps Google understand "what the page is about."
Google's developer support page has changed
Google's structured data developer page has changed from this:
"Search engines can more easily organize and display in creative ways."
For this new version:
"Google Search struggles to email list understand what a page is about . However, you can give Google a clear clue about the meaning of the page by including structured data on the page."
Previously, schema markup was limited to presentation-type data. Now the page states that this is to help Google understand web pages.
